Two new models coming soon!

As we’ve been saying from the start, our goal is to offer you a wide selection of tires for your vintage bikes, no matter their style or era!

To find the best manufacturing partner, we started with a rather rare and complicated model: a 700A from the 1900–1925 period.

This model is now available and we are not going to stop there! We’ve been working on two new models for months!

A 700 Standard:

Since the beginning of the pneumatic tire, several sizes have coexisted. Rims of varying diameters (A, B, C…), varying widths… A real headache for cyclists! It wasn’t until the early 1920s that a “Standard” finally emerged, at least in France. It was based on “B” rim diameters.

The 700 Standard corresponds to a 700x35B / 28 x 1-1/2 x 1-3/8 (37-635 ETRTO).

It fits rims with an outside diameter of 648 to 650 mm. Its width is set at 35 mm. This was the standard size on most touring bicycles starting in the 1920s. It remained in use until the 1960s, despite competition from the 650B Demi-Ballon.

Several BERGOUGNAN models were produced during this period. We chose to reproduce this “Ligne”  model, with its straight tread pattern, which stands out for its elegant and sleek design: simply timeless!

A 650B Demi-Ballon:

In the second half of the 1920s, some manufacturers began offering 50mm-wide balloon tires to provide greater comfort compared to standard 35mm tires.

A few years later, a compromise between standard tires and balloon tires emerged: the 42mm-wide demi-balloon tire.

The 650B Demi-Ballon corresponds to a 650x42B (44-584 ETRTO)..

Offering the perfect balance of comfort and lightness, it became the dominant choice in the 1930s and was largely responsible for the decline of 650B Ballon tires in the following decade. Even today, many consider it the best tire size for bicycles.

Once again, we’ve chosen to recreate a “Ligne” design: elegant and timeless!

Status:

These two models were designed based on new old stock tires. The two molds have already been manufactured. The first prototypes are scheduled for this month.

If all goes well, they will first be available in white before the end of the year. Then a brick-red version will be launched in 2027.

Your vintage bike deserves the best, and it deserves BERGOUGNAN tires!
