Results of the first samples:
We have had the first samples in our possession for two weeks now. The time has come to share a brief assessment with you.
The tread
It's simply incredible! No smudges, no misalignment in the marking. Manufacturing this tire was a technical challenge. It required the creation of a new type of mold, co-designed by us and our partner. The result exceeded our expectations!
Side markings
All side markings are fully compliant (size, position, font). Compared to vintage tires, legal markings (ETRTO dimensions and recommended and maximum air pressures) have naturally been added.
Assembly and disassembly tests
We mounted these samples on a wide range of vintage rims from our collection:
- From different brands (Peugeot / Westwood / Gravigny, etc.)
- In different widths
- Made from different materials (steel, wood, wood and aluminum)
All assemblies were possible by hand. The tire is always perfectly centered, with no play. The mounting dimensions are perfect. Removal was then easy on each rim, using only plastic tire levers.
Tire width
Depending on the width of the rim, the actual width of the tire is between 31 and 33 mm.

The only downside: the color
We are very demanding when it comes to the authenticity of our vintage tire replicas. The color of these first samples is not what we wanted for this model; they are too “white” and not light gray. It is difficult to define the exact color of the rubber after molding. It is important to note that the color of rubber changes during manufacturing and continues to change throughout its lifetime. A new formulation test is currently underway to achieve the desired result. Once this has been validated, we will be able to start mass production!
Legal certifications
The tests corresponding to the international standard ISO 5775, as well as the internal tests carried out by our manufacturer on its own test benches and according to its own criteria, have all been validated.
Riding tests
Here is the well-deserved reward! This is truly the most enjoyable part of quality control
Our test bike is ridden every day and the kilometers are piling up. The tires perform perfectly! The “atypical” tread pattern is not noticeable at all.
Findings
We make a small correction to the color by adjusting the amount of pigments added when creating the rubber, and our tire will be absolutely flawless!
In the meantime, we'll keep on rolling with it!!!
Your vintage bike deserves the best, and it deserves BERGOUGNAN tires!
